garden inspired invitations

When wedding vendors want to collaborate with others, try a different design, or push their own creative boundaries, a styled shoot does just that. So when Tonya of Tonya Hjort Photography was looking for a stationer for a French garden-inspired wedding styled shoot, I quickly volunteered. She partnered with the recently renovated Harvester Square, a premiere wedding and event venue in St. Cloud, Minnesota that blends history with modern luxury.

Her soft, airy, and romantic-styled Pinterest board got my creative gears spinning! The soft blues, muted pinks, and fresh citrus were the perfect backdrop for a French garden-inspired wedding invitation suite. I started with a custom watercolor border adding butterflies and dragonflies for that whimsical, romantic feel.

Printing the invitation on deckled edge paper gave it an aged aesthetic. I choose my favorite print method, letterpress, in a timeless muted blue to mimic the sky on a perfectly clear day. A touch of elegance with digital calligraphy added that romantic touch. A soft coral handmade silk ribbon and a floral wax seal tied in perfectly with the rest of the suite.

To keep things interesting, the response card was printed on soft pearlized paper, giving it a subtle sheen and creating a delicate contrast to the invitation. I loved using the ticket die cut for that touch of unexpected. Butterflies dance around the card and the duogram anchors the design.

French gardens are synonymous with the famous painter, Claude Monet. His artwork was the perfect choice for this suite. I used it to create a beautiful vellum overlay for the menu. This same art is repeated in the envelope liner, providing a cohesive look throughout all the pieces.

I have to admit, my favorite part of this entire suite was probably the place card. I knew Tonya wanted to incorporate oranges and I also knew I wanted to use them in a way I hadn’t seen before. Let me tell you, there were a few sleepless nights! It took me a while, playing around with different ways to use the orange slices and I absolutely love how they turned out!

I can’t help but crush on Tonya’s work. Her eye for creating beautiful images is obvious. A resounding thank you to her for these gorgeous images! Also, a big thank you for these talented wedding vendors who contributed to this shoot:
